Attributes

Attributes define the character. The higher the value, the better the character is in that category. 0 is considered the standard value, comparable to the average for people in our world.

During character creation at Level 1, you can allocate the following values to their attributes:

2, 2, 1, 0, 0, -1

After allocating these values, you can add 2 more attribute points, either to the same or split them up and increase 2 attributes by 1 each.

Strength STR
Bodily power and muscles. Determines damage of melee attacks, success of grappling, and which heavy weapons you can wield.

Dexterity DEX
Control over your body and motions. Determines initiative, damage of ranged and finesse attacks, and which DEX-based weapons you can wield.

Constitution CON
Robustness and physical health. Determines HP and which armour you can wear.

Willpower WIL
Strength of mind. Determines amount of Mana and resistance to spells.

Intelligence INT
Mental acuity and aptitude for learning. Determines power of spells, knowledge, and amount of languages known.

Social skills SOC
Ability to interact, influence and understand others. Important for talking to others and persuasion.

Strength STR

Strength determines how strong the body and muscles are. While a character with a Strength of 0 can lift a maximum of 100 kg (200 lbs) and jump 3 m (10 ft) long, characters with 5 Strength can do twice as much. A character with only -2 Strength, on the other hand, will struggle to swing a sword or move stones out of the way.

Gameplay effects:

  • Determines damage of melee Attacks.
  • Ables wielding heavy weapons, like Greataxes.
  • Affects Grapling and Shoving and the resistance thereof.

Dexterity DEX

Dexterity refers to how well one can control their motor skills. Somebody with a Dexterity of 0 can climb simple trees and do knitting, while a character with 5 Dexterity could fire an arrow at a target 30 F away while upside down and blindfolded. A character with only -2 Dexterity would be clumsy and have problems with hand-eye coordination.

Gameplay effects:

  • Damage of ranged and finesse attacks.
  • Initiative, how quickly one can act in combat.
  • Which DEX-based weapons you can wield.

Constitution CON

Constitution refers to ones bodies robustness. A character with a CON of 0 would be able to take a hit or two, but could just as well get sick easily, while a character with a CON of 4 is robust against sicknesses and cold temperatures and could walk for miles. A character with -2 or less CON is exhausted after a sprint and Prone to get sunstroke after a warm summer day.

Gameplay effects:

  • Amount of Health points (HP).
  • Determines how heavy the armour you wear can be.
  • Resisting poison and sicknesses.

Willpower WIL

Willpower refers to mental strength and self-control. It determines mental power and courage.

WIL of 0 describes a character who gives into temptations sometimes but can also stay extremely focused on an objective if their motivation is right. Characters with 4 and more WIL are determined fighters with a steel-sharp mind, unwavering in their pursuit of goals and undeterred by obstacles. On the opposite, somebody with a WIL of -2 is nervous, sometimes fearful, and can get distracted easily.

Gameplay effects:

  • Amount of Mana.
  • Resistance to spells and magic effects.

Intelligence INT

Intelligence is the capacity for learning, reasoning, problem-solving, and understanding. It encompasses the ability to acquire knowledge, apply logic, and adapt to new situations. A character with an Intelligence of 0 has common knowledge of all areas of life and has no problems learning new skills while a character with an Intelligence of 5 understands the intricacies of magic, can speak multiple languages, and might quote entire encyclopedias. On the other hand, a character with an Intelligence of -2 might have problems reading and have memory gaps.

Gameplay effects:

  • Increases damage of spells and some class skills.
  • Important for all knowledge abilities.

Social Skills SOC

Social Skills are a mixture of empathy, charisma and eloquence. Characters with Social Skills of 0 have no problems talking to others and win arguments, though sometimes it is hard to distinguish what people say and what they actually mean. While a character with Social Skills of 5 could persuade bandits to become honourable knights and read peoples inner desires, a character with -2 has problems reading social cues and stumbles over their own words.

Gameplay effects:

  • Important for social interactions and talking yourself out of a fight.
  • Reading and understanding people.
