Chaos Table

When casting a spell without having enough Mana, the Chaosmage can cast the spell anyways but has to roll on this Chaos Table.

To cast the spell first subtract the Mana costs from your spell from your Mana. You should now have a negative value. Then, cast the spell like you normally would. After the effects of the spell have been resolved, roll 1d12 + Mana and look at the table below to see what happens.

Example: You have 1 Mana and cast 'Life Distribution' (Mana cost: 4). You roll 1d12 = 4 for the spell and damage an enemy by 4 and heal an ally by 4. You now have -3 Mana and have to roll on the Chaos Table. You roll 1d12 - 3 = 0, which means you receive 4 damage.

 

6+ You maintain control.
5 Smoke comes out of your hands.
4 Lights dance around you and your target.
3 The lucky number. Gain +1 Mana.
2 You get a headache.
1 You get nosebleed.
0 The chaotical energies overwhelm your mind. Lose 4 HP. The number can't be reduced or increased.
-1 A static noise rings in your ears and you can't hear anything beside it until the next Short Rest.
-2 A powerful recoil from the spell forces you Prone.
-3 Chaotic energies are set free and deal you and all allies within 6 F 2 damage.
-4 You can't cast spells anymore until the next Long Rest.
-5 A burning heat seems to course through your body. Lose 8 HP. The number can't be reduced or increased.
-6 Blindness befalls you. All you can see are the strings of raw chaotic energy flowing around. Until the next Short Rest.
-7 The spell is taking a toll on you. Lose 6 Mana.
-8 A mark is left on your body. A visible sign which shows that you've lost control. Mark this as a Permanent Injury.
-9 Energies are set free. Lightning strikes random allies around you. Roll 1d4 for every ally within 9 F of you, including you. On a 1 they take 12 lightning damage.
-10 Lose 1 AP next turn.
-11 You start hearing a voice. And it won't stop. Mark this as a Permanent Injury.
-12 Lose 20 HP. The number can't be reduced or increased.
-13 A Chaos Beast appears and attacks everyone within reach.
-14 You gain a vision of pure chaotic energy and can't get it out of your head, like a PTSD. Mark this as permanent injury.
-15 You take a random Permanent Injury. Roll for it.
-16 Forget the spell you just cast.
-17 Every creature within 3 F of you loses 1d20 HP. The number can't be reduced or increased.
-18 You feel your power sucked from you. Lose 20 Mana.
-19 Stare long enough into the void, and it will stare back. Chaos consumes 1 of your AP at the beginning of your next turn, forcing you to take an action.
-20 Lose 2 AP next turn.
-21 Permanently lose memories of the last 7 days.
-21 Image of Chaos. Everyone goes mad if they fail a WIL - Check against your Spell Saving Check.
-22 Mini black hole appears where the spell was cast.
-23 Receive 40 psychic damage.
-24 Implosion.
-25 You dematerialize. For 1 hour, you become invisible, untouchable and can't take actions or communicate.
-26 Unbridled, raw magic emerges and attacks everyone in 4 F.
-27 5 Chaos Beasts spawn around you.
-28 You experience horror beyond imagination for 1 minute. PTSD.
-29 Teleport yourself and everyone around you to another random location.
-30 Mark of Death. Chaos calls for you. One day it will come and take your soul.
-31 You implode, dealing 10d8 Force damage to everyone within 2 F. There is nothing left of you.
